Estimated Construction Dates:

Nov 01, 2018 - Jul 25, 2019

Project Status

Projected Funding:

$1,600,000

Project Description:

This sanitary sewer improvement project consists of the construction of 3,100 LF of sanitary sewer lines ranging in pipe size from 15-inches to 18-inches in diameter on the lower segments of the Cedar Creek Interceptor Subbasins CC-03 and CC-04.

Project Rationale:

The existing lines do not have capacity to convey the predicted peak wet weather sanitary sewer flows nor meet the future needs of development. The condition of the existing pipe system is also a concern. There has been at least one documented overflow in these subbasins.

Current Project Status:

The base survey has been completed, the new line alignment study is underway to determine the least disruptive and most cost effective route. Access easements are also being considered. Performed alignment walk on 9/28/17. Minor adjustments were made to the alignment and ROW plans have began. Received preliminary Easement exhibits on January 24. These exhibits will be utilized in order to obtain easements from the property owners. All property owners were contacted about obtaining easements in early February. Approximately 500 ft. of sewer line north of the railroad tunnel was realigned in order to reduce the number of trees taken. The city is awaiting the final easement legal descriptions of the four properties affected by the realignment. An Open House was held April 4th from 6 to 8 pm at the Winterset Community Center. The final Easement was acquired by the City on May 3rd. Burns & McDonnell is in the process of updating the 90% drawings. Advertisement for bids began July 2 and were opened on July 25 with Beemer Construction as the apparent low bid. On September 6, City staff will request approval from City Council for a construction contract with Beemer Construction. The contract between the City and Beemer Construction was approved by City Council and the Notice to Proceed was issued to Beemer Construction with a start date of November 1, 2018.
